Who We Are            الذين هم لانكستر وموركامب مدينة ملاذ

Lancaster and Morecambe City of Sanctuary is a collection of volunteer members with the following shared aims:

  • Helping to make it practically possible for Lancaster and Morecambe to accommodate refugees and asylum seekers by providing the relevant support such as housing, health, befriending and english lessons.
  • Acting as a welcome and suppo12308509_1534416916880031_1716133421175851464_nrt network to those refugees who come to Lancaster and Morecambe.
  • Running education activities that educate and inform people about refugees and promote community cohesion.
  • Campaigning to ensure Lancaster and Morecambe does its fair share in providing sanctuary to people fleeing war and persecution.

English Conversation Cafe          المحادثة باللغة الإنجليزية كافيه

Trained English Language Teachers provide free English classes over tea and coffee for refugees and asylum seekers who would like to improve their written and spoken English. Classes are every Monday between 10.30am and 12pm atLancaster Quakers Meeting House, starting from 4th January 2016.

English Language Support Sessions           اللغة دعم الدورات

Further English Language support is available on Fridays between 2pm and 3pm at the Gregson Centre on Moor Lane, Lancaster.

Lancaster Churches Together and Dallas Road Mosque, Masjid Noor, have given their full support to making our district a City of Sanctuary and welcome all new arrivals in to our city to attend worship with them.

Football          كرة القدم

If refugees or asylum seekers would like to play football, there are organized matches every Sunday evening against St. Thomas’s Church. Football kits can be provided. Please email Sam Armstrong if you would like to get involved, on

Internet Cafe and Drop-In            مقهى انترنت وتسرب في

Marsh Community Centre provides a general advice drop in and use of computers on  Wednesday morning from 9am till 11am. They provide advice and support around housing, education, health, employment and asylum issues.

Women and pre-school children             النساء والأطفال ما قبل المدرسة

East Meets West run drop in sessions for refugee women and pre-school children on Mondays starting from 25th January 2016 between 1 and 3 pm at the Priory refectory. East Meets West have years of experience of crossing cultural and linguistic barriers and forming friendships.
